MENTAL HEALTH MONTH – MAY 2008

Mental Health Month was created more than fifty years ago to raise awareness about mental health conditions and the importance of mental wellness for all.  Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority along with its provider network provides education and information about mental illness to our community every month of the year.  Each year for Mental Health Month in May we also like to involve our community and focus some of our efforts particularly in May.

What’s happening in the community?

Thank you to the many cities who have passed a proclamation at their city council meeting acknowledging May as Mental Health Month.  Check out your local library for a display of information about mental illness.  The Authority will be featured in the Pontiac Chamber newsletter in the Member On Point Section. Watch for the guest opinion written by Jackie Castine in your local paper.

For those of you who have cable television, watch for the mental health information being displayed on your cable station’s bulletin.  Also on television, Board member Malkia Newman will present a guest opinion courtesy of Channel 7 WXYZ

Join Us For The Rally!

Again this year we are encouraging everyone to participate in the 4th Annual Walk A Mile In My Shoes Rally on May 14th in Lansing. Let’s have a strong Oakland County presence.
