My child is threatening me; where do I
go for help?
We advise
that you call 911. When the situation is
no longer at crisis proportion (meaning
that neither you nor your child are at
risk of physical harm) and your child is
already being seen by a psychiatric
service provider, you should call that
provider immediately to get direction on
what to do next. If you are not active
with a psychiatric service provider, you
may consider taking your child to the
nearest emergency room (if you have
private insurance) or to Common Ground
Sanctuary (if you have a Medicaid HMO,
regular Medicaid, Child, or a child with
no health insurance) for a psychiatric
assessment to assess for
hospitalization.
I’m a teacher; can I refer a student
for public mental health services?
No, you
would need to discuss this with the
parents/guardian of the child because
only the person responsible can call
Easter Seals Michigan to initiate
services. In the case of a foster child,
the worker at Department of Human
Services would have to make that
referral.
Does Oakland County Community Mental
Health Authority do psychological
testing?
No. If
you have insurance call your provider to
determine if your child qualifies for
psychological testing and who to refer
your child should see for evaluation. If
you have no insurance, work with your
school district.
I am a foster parent for a child from
Wayne County but I live in Oakland
County. Can he receive services from
Oakland County Community Mental Health
Authority?
Wayne County would have
to authorize those services. The
Department of Human Services would have
to call Wayne County CMH for
authorization for the child to receive
services in Oakland County. Generally,
the child will need to go to Wayne
County for services.
