Jail Diversion Program
Through the Jail Diversion program, persons with serious mental illnesses, serious emotional disturbances, or developmental disabilities who have committed misdemeanors are diverted to services as an alternative to being charge and incarcerated in a county or municipal jail.
Co-Occurring Disorders
Co-occurring disorders is defined as individuals who have at least one mental disorder as well as an alcohol or drug use disorder. While these disorders may interact differently in any one person (e.g., an episode of depression may trigger a relapse into alcohol abuse, or cocaine use may exacerbate schizophrenic symptoms), at least one disorder of each type can be diagnosed independently of the other.
Self-Determination
Self-Determination is a voluntary option that affords you greater choice, flexibility, and control over your supports and services through the use of an individual budget, a fiscal intermediary, and direct contracting with service providers.
Evidence-based Practices
Simply stated, best practices represents the coming together of knowledge and skills of the practitioner; the desires and values of the consumer/family; and the best research evidence that links a particular intervention with a desired outcome.
Person-Centered Planning
Person Centered Planning is the law in Michigan (Michigan Mental Health Code, 1996. A person centered plan builds on your strengths. This means the plan looks at what you can do, not what you can’t do. A Person Centered Plan considers your needs, wishes, and desires in all parts of a your life.
Utilization Management
Utilization Management is a set of guidelines that will help make sure that each person gets the right services and supports at the right time, in the right amount, and for as long as they need them.
